In Abu Simbel, there exists one of the most famous ancient Egyptian monuments. The temple of Ramses II with his four massive Colossi adorning the entrance of the temple. The temple was marked as a convey of Egyptian supremacy for whoever intended to approach Egypt from the south. To the north of the temple is the smaller temple of Hathor, which was built in honor of Ramses’ wife Nefertari. Both these temples are the best-known archeological sites of Egypt. The huge sandstone statues carved into the temple facades and the decorated interiors with art and hieroglyphics should not be missed.
The Abu Simbel Temples were originally carved into solid rock cliffs, but UNESCO relocated the temples in the 1960s after the building of the Aswan High Dam to save them from inundation. They are now present near the banks of Lake Nasser. Our Abu Simbel tour begins from the city of Aswan, after your tour to Abu Simbel, you will return to your hotel.
